The Page node - enables randomization and rotation of questions within a page, and enables you to specify themes and/or page layouts for specific pages. Items that will cause a page break, for example conditions, loops and blocks, are not allowed within a Page. You can also use dynamic answers within pages, enabling parts of the page to be updated based on responses to one or more questions on the same page (go to Dynamic Answers for more information).
Pages can be used inside Blocks, and in combination with Question masking if there are some questions that are to be displayed only under certain conditions.
Figure 1 - The Page node’s details page
The qid in the upper-left corner of the details page is the name of the page - you can edit this as required, and you can add a title for future reference.
- Name - the name of the page node. This name appears in the Survey pane. You can rename the page node as required.
- Force desktop rendering - if the survey is set to allow Touch rendering on iPhone or Android phone, check the box to override Touch rendering for the contents of just this page. This applies to Touch (iPhone or Android phone) only; generic rendering is still generic rendering.
- Order - the order in which the elements in the page are to appear. The options are: In Order, Randomized, or Rotated.
- Theme - select the theme to be used for this page. If no theme is selected, the default theme for the questionnaire is used.
- Page layout - select the page layout to be used for this page. If no layout is specified, the default layout for the questionnaire is used.
- Auto-Submit - provides the ability to automatically submit a page. This can be used for example when you want the respondent to view some content (typically an image) for a finite time before they are asked about what they’ve just seen. Type the required delay in seconds into the Auto-Submit field, or the value can be piped in. This property is available only to responsive rendered surveys, and can only be set from Survey Designer. Note the following:
- The presence of the back button is controlled by the settings/directives, it is not hidden automatically.
- The forward button will appear and can be used to submit the page early.
- A requirement for validation may cause the auto-submission to fail.
- Auto-submission will be “executed” only once on a page.
To create an item inside a page, click the + Inside button above or below the page to open the Add Item overlay (go to Adding Items to a Survey for more information); the new item is added at the bottom of the folder's contents (below any existing items), or you can drag and drop items into the page in the Survey pane; point to the page icon when dropping the item. Adding a description for the page will simplify editing of the survey later.
