Formatting Text

The various text fields in a question are enabled for Rich text editing. When you click into a field, a formatting toolbar becomes available. Here you can format the text and insert images.

The tools enable you to perform a number of basic text formatting functions such as selecting font type and size, applying bold font, italics, underlines etc. and adding images into the text.

Whenever you make any changes to text using the formatting tools, <p> tags will be added to the text.

Use the Pipe values tool towards the right end of the toolbar to add piping such as respondent data to the text (go to Text Substitution or Response Piping for more information).

Click the File Selector tool to add images to the text (go to File Manager for more information).

Note: If you need to add a lot of text to a text field you can resize the field - drag the lower edge. The size of the text fields is remembered for all questions in the survey.

Adding Images Into The text

In addition to using images as the answers to questions (go to Images as Answers for more information), you can also add images into the text of any of the text fields for a question. You can browse to images already placed in your File Manager, and upload new images from your computer into the File Manager (go to File Manager for more information). Images can be added any of the fields supporting rich text editing in a survey. To add an image to a text field:

1. Click into the text field and place your cursor at the location where you wish to place the image.

The Text formatting toolbar opens.

2. Click the File selector icon .

The File Selector overlay opens. The folder list on the left can be resized if necessary by dragging it wider or narrower as appropriate.

3. Find the image you wish to use (it may be in a sub-folder), click on it to select it, then click Insert.

The image file is inserted into the text field.

Editing an Image size and Alt text

Once an image has been inserted into an info or question node, clicking on the image displays an Image Properties button and image anchor icons in the corner of the image. To quickly resize an image, drag one of the corner anchor icons to scale the image. Alternatively, use the Image Properties button to enter the size numerically.

To display the Image Properties overlay, click the image and then select the Image Properties button. Adjust the width or height (in pixels) as appropriate. The padlock icon locks the aspect ratio. Click this to be able to stretch the image in only one dimension. Use the Alternative Text field to provide the image with Alt Text for inclusion in the HTML. This is beneficial for visually impaired users who rely on screen readers and is a requirement for most accessibility guidelines.
