A Numeric question is a “free text” question with a text field for numeric answers (non-numeric characters are not accepted). This type of question could be used for example when asking the respondent for a value or a quantity.
The question details page includes a number of fields and options. All the properties available for this question type are described in the Question Properties documentation (go to Accessing Question Properties for more information).

If upper and lower limits are defined, then the numeric question can be displayed as a slider. When the limits are added then a check-box appears under the Required question property, and if this check-box is selected then a Slider behavior property becomes available. This allows you to specify the size of the slider and whether it is to be displayed horizontally or vertically.
You can convert a Numeric question to Open or Date if you need to; to do so right-click on the item in the Questionnaire Tree and select Convert to.
A variation on this question type is the Numeric List item (go to Numeric List for more information). This item provides the respondent with a list of answer options, and allows him/her to type numeric information into a text field beside each option.
Note: For Numeric and Numeric List nodes, the default Column width of the respondent's input box is calculated from the constraints placed on the node by the Total digits, Decimals, Lower and Upper limit settings (go to Question Properties for more information). If these settings are altered then the default setting will be updated automatically when the survey is launched. The default setting will be overridden if you type a specific value into the Column field.
Don't Know and Prefer Not to Answer Choices
When designing this question, you can choose to add "Don't know" and "Prefer not to answer" options.
These options will appear beneath the question when users take the survey; selecting either option allows the user to continue without entering an answer in the field.
