1: About the File Upload Question Type
The File Upload Question Type allows respondents to upload PDFs or Microsoft Office documents during a survey, providing additional supporting material as part of the survey process.
This is useful for pairing survey data with PDFs or Microsoft Office documents, enhancing the depth and quality of the survey responses.
1.1: Dynamic Display Logic
Dynamic display logic lets you control the visibility of the file upload question based on respondent answers. For example, if a respondent answers "Yes" to needing to upload a file, the file upload option will appear.
2: Pre-requisites
In order to use the file upload question, the survey must match these pre-requisites:
The survey must use a responsive layout.
The survey must use either Web or CATI modes.
The survey must have the JavaScript Engine setting enabled. To enable this setting, click the settings icon in the sidebar and enable the "Use JavaScript scripting engine" toggle. Note that turning on the JavaScript Engine may require updates to any existing scripts.
3: Survey Setup
To add the file upload question type to your survey, follow these steps:
Create a new survey or edit an existing one.
Click the Add Item overlay to view all available question types.
-
Click the "File Upload" question type to add it to your survey.
4: Uploading Files
Respondents can browse and upload files directly within the survey.
The file can be replaced if the incorrect file is uploaded.
The maximum file size allowed is 10MB.
Note: The upload file option is displayed depending on Dynamic Display Logic.
4.1: Supported File Types
Supported file types include: PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX.
Note: You can specify which file types are allowed for upload in the question settings beneath "Accepted File Types".
5: Exporting the Survey Data
When downloading survey data:
Click the drop-down arrow next to the Export button.
Click "Export Survey Data".
Select "Delimited text file" from the "File Type" drop-down.
Click the Advanced options toggle.
Click the Include uploaded media files toggle.
Click the Export button.
5.1: Export Limitations
File upload questions are not currently supported in SmartHub and downstream reporting solutions. The only way to access these files is through the download option mentioned above.
5.2: File Usage Tracking:
File usage, similar to other content types (audio, video, photo), is tracked.
Company Administrators can monitor usage in the company reports.
Ensure appropriate capacity to handle file uploads as you approach usage thresholds.
